About Eikon

Eikon Financial Pty Ltd (Eikon) is a Melbourne-based Financial Services firm operating since 2007, wholly owned by its employees.

Eikon (pronounced e-kon), is the Ancient Greek word for "icon".

We are a young energetic team with traditional values.  Collectively we harness the precise skills and knowledge required to employ the most forward thinking financial strategies and investment portfolios, shaped specifically for each of our clients.

It is a privilege to advise on clients’ financial affairs and we understand the magnitude of this responsibility.

It’s important to be dynamic and embrace change to allow us to respond to movements in personal circumstances, superannuation & tax legislation and market cycles.  Change is a constant and we are always looking at ways to maximise opportunities.  Our team continues to identify new solutions whilst monitoring existing strategies.

Maintaining a strong awareness of financial market history is of equal importance and accordingly we follow a conservative, well rounded investment philosophy.  Our investment philosophy relates to Aesop’s fable 'The Tortoise and the Hare' and believe the lesson stands the test of time.

The best way to describe who we are is best represented by our business logo, the golden horse.  Horses are powerful, strong, strategic and loyal.  There is strength in our knowledge and mobility.  Our ability to strategise, move and get results for the long term.

We look to build relationships of significance.

Investment Committee

The whole is greater than the sum of the parts – and as such we carefully consider the diversity of experience in the people working with Eikon to make the whole.

Adding to the calibre of the Investment Committee team are two independent consultants Mike Hawkins and David Van Ryn with combined experience of over 60 years.  Both with highly successful and extensive careers in different areas of investment markets which enables a well-rounded nimble team allowing us to remain dynamic in ever changing markets.

Katerina met Mike in 2007 as Chief Investment Officer and founding partner and Director of Evans and Partners (until 2017). During his 27 year career Mike also held the position as Chief Investment Officer and partner at JB Were Goldman Sachs, and also held roles within ANZ Bank, IOOF Funds Management and UBS.

Mike now consults independently from his home base in Queensland.  His area of speciality is in global macroeconomic analysis and the Australian share market.  Mike produces a monthly update on all global and Australian macroeconomic themes and market valuations and expectations.

David and Katerina climbed Kilimanjaro in 2011 and knew at some point in the future they would work together.

David has over 32 years financial markets experience.  His career in financial markets began in the investment team of a corporate super fund before moving to Westpac Institutional Bank where he enjoyed a 22 year career in their Financial Market Division.  David had a number of senior roles during his time at Westpac with a primary focus on interest rate and inflation derivatives.

David left Westpac to join JANA Asset Consulting in Dec 2015 as a member of the executive team and had management responsibility for the Business Development team.  David was also part of the Specialised Investment team and held the position as Senior Investment Consultant advising a number of large superannuation funds on investments and investment structure.

This experience allows David to analyse the most complex of financial instruments and together with Mike’s experience strengthen the asset allocation positioning.

Financial Advice

We are market leading financial planning specialists and advise on key strategies designed to add significant value to our clients’ financial positions.

As an investor it is critical to ensure assets are held within the most appropriate tax structure.  Structural advice of this kind can ensure growth and earnings are not diluted and also assists in protecting estates.  We appreciate clients have worked hard to accumulate their wealth and therefore we advise on how to best optimise the varying structural options available to them.

Structural advice translates to advising on estates in preparation for them passing to the next generation. It is important that the most appropriate structures for the current beneficial owners as well as future beneficial owners are in place with an emphasis to protecting wealth for current and future generations.

We specialise in advising on Self Managed Super Funds and hold specialist accreditation with the Self Managed Super Fund Association.

Accordingly we stay informed on changes made to superannuation and taxation legislation to ensure our financial planning strategies remain current.  Superannuation, in particular Self Managed Super Funds is a growing and complex area and we provide the professional support required to ensure clients stay compliant and continue to take great control of their retirement savings.

Investment Philosophy

James.Walsh_

Artist: James Walsh - Photo credit: James Walsh Studio - In partnership with Melbourne Design Week 2020 - Bricks supplied by: Brickworks - Space: Saint Francis Place

Our Investment Philosophy is simple: we diversify. Investments are actively managed by specialists in their field – people we know and Investment Managers that our clients can also meet.

We use our investment knowledge and that of other expert investment professionals to select the underlying investments across each asset class. We advise clients on how to invest their wealth to manage risk and optimise risk adjusted returns to protect and grow wealth.

Our investment portfolio construction is underpinned by a three tier process:

  • Macroeconomic View, guiding Asset Allocation.
  • Deep Dive analysis into Investments we consider for our portfolios.
  • The Active Fund Manager expertise in analysing the underlying companies to provide specialist bottom up evaluation.

We believe in a careful and considered investment approach using the most experienced people and associates to review current and new investment opportunities.

Diversification

Diversification has been a key component of asset allocation for some time.  An investment specific decision is preceded by an asset allocation decision and is therefore the most fundamental of investment decisions.  Asset allocation decisions account for 91.5% of the variation between returns on different portfolios, therefore holding the right mix of Growth (eg. equities) and Defensive (eg.bonds) is instrumental in determining the fluctuations in performance outcomes.  We therefore place significant value on this process and designing the asset allocation is an educated and partnered decision with our clients.

Active Management

Active Managers apply extensive analytical research including understanding of; business, industry, management, financial measures and the outlook to find value against current market prices.

Investment markets are volatile and we look to design portfolios in line with our client’s asset allocation. We are diligent in selecting the investments within each asset class.
